Abstract

Satterthwaite (1941) demonstrated that the ratio of linear combinations of mean squares follows approximately an F distribution. The validity of this approximation with respect to the size and power of tests employing it for a particular model is investigated here by Monte Carlo methods. Two different methods of constructing the test statistic are compared.
