The probabilities of some epidemic models

Abstract

A model is proposed that encompasses Downton's carrier-borne epidemic model, which can also be viewed as an extension of the general stochastic epidemic model allowing for removal of susceptibles as well as infectives. A recursive procedure is given leading to a solution for the state probabilities at any point in time and detailed comments are made about the validity of the method for Downton's model.
