Abstract

Moments of the square of the distance from a sample point to the r th nearest point of a point process are studied, when the process is derived from a square lattice by random thinning. They are used to obtain approximations to the power functions of certain tests of the null hypothesis of a Poisson process, when the alternative is a process of the type described.
