Heuristic estimation of probability densities

Abstract

A heuristic procedure related to hypothesis testing is offered as a practical alternative to Bayesian estimation of probability densities. Although closely related to the ‘window’ method, it overcomes some of the problems associated with that technique. The proposed method is computationally rapid and easy to use.
