On the correlation between correlations

Abstract

Expressions are derived for the asymptotic correlations between the five possible pairs of correlations, whether intraclass or interclass, when estimated by maximum likelihood from multinormally distributed samples. The use of these expressions is discussed for testing hypotheses about, and for obtaining pooled estimates of, the intraclass and interclass correlations.
