Serial dilutions: Error effects and optimal designs

Abstract

The effect of small errors of dilution is shown to be sizeable when serial dilutions are required to estimate particle concentrations. Optimal dilution designs are given. The error effect and optimal design are also investigated for ratios of estimates.
