On efficient tests for branching processes

Abstract
SUMMARY The question of efficiency in testing for the mean of the offspring distribution of a supercritical Galton-Watson process is considered. Asymptotic power functions of various tests are compared, and it is shown that the asymptotically locally most powerful test is not necessarily best over the region of interest.
