Weighted averages of the observed odds ratios when the number of tables is large

Abstract
When estimating the common odds ratio in a set of 2 × 2 tables, we show that, except in the special case of matched pairs, no weighted average of the observed odds ratios is asymptotically efficient as the number of tables goes to infinity with the numbers of observations per table uniformly bounded.
