AMENDMENTS AND CORRECTIONS

Abstract

In the approximations for a product, and the subsequent calculations, a factor of ½ was omitted. The approximations should be on Π λ i ≏ λ ¯ t - 1 ( 1 - 1 2 S λ λ / λ ¯ 2 ) p. 251, Π λ i ≏ λ ¯ t - 1 ( 1 - 1 2 S λ λ / λ ¯ 2 ) on p. 266, and Π ′ ξ i ≏ a ^ - ( t - 1 ) ( 1 + 1 2 w / a ^ 2 ) Π ′ ξ i ≏ a ^ - ( t - 1 ) ( 1 + 1 2 w / a ^ 2 ) on p. 267. Corrected values for D in Table 8, p. 268 are available from the author. The approximations are now even better in the situations of interest. The value for A when π = 1 for process ( c 3 ) in Table 10, p. 273 is 0·839. On p. 267 the two occurrences of ‘ ν ¯ ’ should be removed. The year for the Schuster et al. paper is 1978. On p. 276 the Hedayat & Federer reference should read ‘nonexistence’ and not ‘existence’.
