Abstract

Barry Eichengreen has long been considered by the academic profession as one of the most prominent scholars of the European Economic and Monetary Union process. His work has contributed considerably to shedding light on the most relevant economic aspects of this process which will probably change the economic structure of Europe dramatically, as it will likely that of the rest of the world. This book draws together several pieces on issues related to the EMU that have been published as articles or chapters in various journals or books. The book, therefore, does not offer any original material, beyond the introductory and concluding chapters, but this by no means makes it redundant; quite the contrary. Notably this collection of reprints of essays written by a single author (with different coauthors) provides the reader with a very compact and informative overview of an important part of the most relevant empirical literature on EMU issues.
