A Message from the President of the Society for Financial Studies
The Review of Financial Studies · 1988 · Volume 1 · Issue 1
Abstract
This is the first issue of The Review of Financial Studies , a new journal published by Oxford University Press for the Society for Financial Studies. The society was established to support the review. The initial idea for the society came from a small group of scholars who perceived the need for a new journal in financial economics that would publish papers at the leading edge of theory and empirical methodology. Informal canvassing within the profession revealed strong support for such a journal. Encouraged by this, the initial group formed a founding committee of distinguished scholars to launch the journal. The reputations, expertise, and advice of the members of the founding committee were invaluable in establishing the society and negotiating its contract with Oxford. Also, the members contributed sufficient capital to establish the review as an independent journal owned by the society. Their loan will be repaid from the operating profit of the society, and the founding committee will be disbanded after the publication of the second volume of the review.
