Abstract

Direct mail is the second largest advertising medium in the United States. The author of this article describes a market-research program which enables his company to select consumers on the basis of social and economic characteristics. The program, called “The 9,500 Plan,” is one of the largest research and statistical tasks ever undertaken in the direct-mail field.
