Abstract

A great deal of research effort has been directed towards the construction of mathematical models for representing the cost of production in terms of pertinent variable factors. But having the model does not guarantee that it is economical, or even feasible, to use it for control purposes. This paper describes how a model was constructed for a complex chemical process, and why the use of the model was abandoned in favor of a simple operating scheduling rule.
