Defense Mechanisms and the Herzberg Theory: An Alternate Test

Abstract

A construct replication of Herzberg's findings using the semistructured Occupational Values Scale to elicit projective responses about satisfying and dissatisfying job situations failed to yield the two-factor pattern. Results from the use of this methodology appear to support Vroom's ego-defense criticism of the recall methodology.
