Abstract
The article presents a comparative analysis of the use of computer to process personnel work in the private sector and the government sector in the U.S., as of 1974. Using data from 87 organizations in the U.S., the authors found that use of the computer to process personnel work is not utilized as much as in other parts of organizations. They also found that federal departments have relatively integrated personnel systems. All of the categories of organizations indicate only limited use of interactive computer systems. The authors conclude that this means personnel staffs are still highly dependent on computer specialists and have not taken advantage of new technology.
