Research on Collective Bargaining in the Public Sector: New Directions
Academy of Management Journal · 1972 · Volume 15 · Issue 3
Abstract
The article discusses some completed research and future areas of research concerning the impact of unionization in the public sector. The three stages of the formation of an employee organization and the concomitant establishment of a collective bargaining agreement with management are the recognition and determination of the bargaining unit, the delineation of the scope of the negotiated agreement and an understanding of the participants to the settlement, and administration of the contract. These three stages are discussed in detail in the text.
