A Method for Evaluating Readings Books
Academy of Management Journal · 1972 · Volume 15 · Issue 3
Abstract
The article presents a method for evaluating and reviewing books of compiled readings or readings books, which can be used in conjecture with standard reviewing methods. This method evaluates the newness of information compiled into these types of books, by comparing the citation decay curves of a specific readings book with other similar books. The books tested in this study are in the areas of Organization and Administration, Marketing, and Finance.Because decay rates vary between the different literature fields, comparisons must be made between books in the same field. The author points out that while this method is useful when combined with other methods, it should not a good method when used by itself.
