Academy of Management Journal · 1968 · Volume 11 · Issue 4
Abstract
This is an inquiry into the criteria for management performance (as distinct from efficiency) in private and public enterprise and public administration in the light of their goals and motives. All organizations have certain features and criteria in common but each type also has its own specific characteristics. Optimum performance in public administration in Government cannot entirely be measured with the yardsticks that are valid in private and public enterprise.
