Comments on Professor Vance's Editorial Comments - Campus Crisis

Abstract

In light of student unrest at U.S. colleges and universities, the article presents a comment on Academy of Management President Vance's article discussing the possibility of a management solution. President Vance asked “How can we better manage the university?” The author asks “Do we want again to become a community of scholars?” The author raises the issue of government contracts to universities that require confidentiality or secrecy. He proposes that all research conducted within the university be opened up for review by the academic community, including the relevance and morality of that research. The author notes that the students are only asking for the university to deliver on the promise of academic freedom and discourse.
