Abstract

The article addresses creative approaches to solving scientific and technological dilemmas. The article focuses on the relationship between a research and development (R&D) manager and his employees. Problems within the R&D environment such as a subordinate's loss of respect and the dilemmas an R&D manager might face, such as friction between himself and a bench scientist or feeling a loss of control, are considered. The article considers ways of solving these dilemmas through understanding the unique role of R&D scientists and motivating them to achieve, sometimes at the cost of the R&D manager's own technical advancement.
