The Control Structure of Organizations: an Empirical Examination: Reply

Abstract

The article presents a reply to comments made by Arnold Tannenbaum on the authors' review of Tannenbaum's book “Control in Organizations.” In his comments, Tannenbaum claimed that the authors' criticisms were unfounded on the basis that each criticism could not be factually supported. The authors, using passages from Tannenbaum's book, assert that the methodologies employed did not take into account the differences of opinion between ranks in organizations regarding control systems. Also, it is mentioned that the authors were not in agreement with the book as stated by Tannenbaum, and several reasons are given for a study performed by the authors, which Tannenbaum criticized.
