Abstract

In a survey of supervisor-subordinate dyads, supervisors were differentiated by perceived uncertainty regarding the work of their unit. Subordinates of high uncertainty supervisors reported greater reliance of supervisors on subjective performance criteria. Different forms of subordinate role conflict were associated with fob stress under conditions of high and low supervisory uncertainty.
