Abstract
The article discusses a survey pertaining to assessing the effectiveness of a public university. Specifically the 1977 study reports the results of estimating the income and employment impacts on the state of Washington which come from federal grants and research funds generated by the state's university. According to the study $3.9 million in federal funds generated $4.8 million in indirect gross state product and the equivalent of 296 full-time jobs. The overall economic impact is determined by dividing the value created impact plus the direct impact income value by the stimulus value.
