A Comparison of the Relationships Between Subordinates' Perceptions of Supervisory Behavior and Measures of Subordinates' Job Satisfaction for Male and Female Leaders
Academy of Management Journal · 1980 · Volume 23 · Issue 4
Abstract
A sex-role congruency hypothesis concerning the relationship between subordinates' perceptions of leaders' behavior and subordinates 'job satisfaction was tested in a public assistance and social service agency. Little evidence was found for the presence of a differential relationship between subordinates' perceptions of male and female leaders' behavior and subordinates' job satisfaction. Among other findings, the relationships between subordinates' perceptions of leaders' initiating structure and subordinates' job satisfaction varied among job classifications.
