Abstract

This article presents information on job orientation and work behavior. Job orientation is compared to job motivation and job satisfaction, noting that it is not a process or a state but rather an individual tendency based on one's value system. Intrinsic and extrinsic job orientation, the two major categories, are explored. Intrinsically oriented employees are more task or job content oriented, whereas extrinsically oriented workers are oriented more towards maintenance. Some studies have attempted to clarify the psychodynamics of intrinsic-extrinsic job orientation. The study presented in this article investigates the relationship between job orientation, and job mobility, and self-development.
