Relationships Between Local Union Characteristics and Worker Behavior and Attitudes

Abstract

Relationships between union strength and union members' reactions to their work and their employer were examined among 17 local unions in the construction industry. Union strength was significantly related to components of worker motivation, job satisfaction and perceptions of organizational leadership. Based on the study, a model was proposed outlining possible effects of the union on indices of worker effectiveness.
