The Relationship of Personal Influence Dissonance to Job Tension, Satisfaction and Involvement
Academy of Management Journal · 1976 · Volume 19 · Issue 2
Abstract
This article presents a study on the dissonance theory, which has been designed to specify under what conditions the dissonance prediction will hold. There are three untested hypotheses that emerged when personal influence in decision making applying to the immediate work environment is conceptualized within the concept of dissonance theory. Hypothesis include that the dissonance is positively associated with job related tension. The other two hypotheses deal with the negative influence of dissonance with overall job satisfaction and job involvement. The results implies that the prediction holds when an individual experiences a difference in the actual and desired level of influence in the job situation.
