Span of Management Research and Issues

Abstract

The article discusses research pertaining to the factors which impact the span of management. Study participants were asked to fill out an “organizational characteristics” questionnaire. In no instances was span the significant independent variable for productivity or effectiveness. The results indicate that the factors usually perceived as influencing the span of management may be more applicable to the impact on supervisory effectiveness and/or group productivity. Experts say greater influences on productivity and effectiveness can be found in organizational size and level.
