Abstract

Upon his return from Africa, the author reviews his views on the state of management in Africa. The author notes that many African managers have ambitious plans for audits of managerial performance and plans for mass teaching to overcome shortcomings. The National Development and Management Foundation of South Africa has developed a management program so successful that it could pose a threat to middle managers. Ethiopia, still working with a traditional feudal society, is undergoing slow change, while Egypt is undergoing tremendous change with the nationalization of managerial skills.
