Abstract

Little integration has occurred between the macrolevel research on salary differentials and the microlevel research on evaluation bias, although both contribute to our understanding of the persistence of gender inequality in wages. It is proposed that task characteristics provide a bridge between these research streams that helps us to build a better understanding of how macro- and microlevel views and structure and process are connected.
