Comment on Jill Graham's Review ofManagerial Ideology and the Social Control of Deviance in Organizations

Abstract

The article presents a commentary by Richard M. Weiss on Jill Graham's review of his book “Managerial Ideology and the Social Control of Deviance in Organizations,” from the April, 1988 issue. The author contends that Graham misrepresented the general message of the book. He explains that Graham characterized the book's review of research on the nature of alcohol problems and of workplace alcoholism programs as contradictory, incomplete, and biased. The author says that the book disconfirms the link between long-term alcohol use and loss of control.
