Abstract

The article presents a response to an earlier article in “Academy of Management Review” titled “Ecocentric Management for a Risk Society,” by Paul Shrivastava. The author takes issue with Shrivastava's claim that technological and ecological risk will take the place of product orientations in a post industrial world. The author argues that instead of replacing product orientation, environmental and risk considerations will influence product orientation. A competing paradigm might cause industry to dismiss those environmental and risk factors that should be a part of product management.
