Abstract
Reviews Handbook of employee selection (1949) by Roy M. Dorcus and Margaret Hubbard Jones. This book is intended as a reference book for persons interested in the use of tests for selecting employees. It is a compendium of abstracts of the essential data of various studies, with the abstracts outlined in terms of 5 categories: (1) the type of job and number of subjects, (2) the test titles (or a brief description where non-standardized tests are used), (3) the type of criterion of job proficiency, (4) the validity statistics, and (5) the reliability of the criterion, where this is reported. It is concluded that practically all of the useful references are included and the elimination of scholastic and military studies does make the book more useful for those who are interested primarily in industrial testing. It is described as an extremely handy reference book that will provide a convenient first step for anyone interested in seeing what has been done in using tests for selected industrial jobs.
