Abstract

The ratings on job success of 192 clerical workers in 4 different organizations were correlated with their scores on a personality inventory. The coefficients ranged from .64 to -.04. An analysis of the most differentiating items indicated that the successful clerical worker is not moody or subject to worry, is even tempered, unwilling to accept responsibility, non-social, lacks self-sufficiency, and does not crave admiration.
