Abstract
The article presents information on a study which examined the managerial objectives of the National Football League (NFL). The authors discuss the generally accepted success criteria for NFL teams, including a clearly defined organizational objective, a measure of effectiveness (win/loss records), and various other criteria such as stadium size and attendance. The 28 teams of the NFL were contacted, of which 10 agreed to participate. Discriminate analysis was performed to determine which of 20 objectives discriminated between winning, moderate, and losing teams. The analysis produced no significant results with respect to the win/loss record of a team.
